Job Summary & Responsibilities  

This position will be based in Tokyo and reports to the head of  Goldman Sachs University in Japan. This Associate position will play a critical role in working within HCM and across all divisions in APAC to execute learning and development initiatives that support the firm’s goals, as well as to manage programs for select divisions and locations.

Principal Job Responsibilities:
• Act as a program manager to partner with the business to analyze needs, design and execute people development initiatives
• Work closely with regional and global counterparts to design and execute quality programs
• Provide management information and analysis on people development activities
• Facilitate discussions, trainings, and learning events
• Consult clients, propose and implement organizational development (team development) types of activities such as divisional offsites

Basic Qualifications

• Minimum of five years experience preferably in learning/organization development or business equivalent
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Well developed organizational and administrative skills
• Client service orientation
• Strong project management skills in a matrix structure
• Ability to work independently as well as ability to drive processes and decision-making
• Ability to solve problems and explain the ideas that underlie them to clients and colleagues
• Ability to develop and manage relationships across the firm and with senior stakeholders
• Self-starting and enthusiastic in approach to work
• Open and sensitive to cultural / global differences
• Strong Word, Excel, and Powerpoint skills
• Prior experience in either learning and development, banking operations, consulting, performance management, or human resources

Preferred Qualifications

• Japanese language ability will be an advantage

The Asia Pacific IMD Product Controllers team within Controllers is currently centralised in Tokyo and supports the Investment Management business in Japan, China, Australia, and other countries in the region.

The team’s main responsibilities are to produce and analyze the daily trading activities, and to verify the values of instruments held in certain Goldman Sachs funds.  This role requires extensive interaction with internal teams, external Fund Administrators, and pricing vendors.  Product Controllers are expected to develop a good understanding of the products and strategies used by the portfolio managers. The function has become increasingly technical in content and offers a challenging and interesting role for dynamic, bright and ambitious individuals with a drive to succeed.

Key Responsibilities
•Prepare / analyze daily P&L and report to Trading Desk
•Review reconciliation reports to ensure data integrity
•Conduct month-end independent price verification
•Prepare reports for investor reporting, including performance and P&L
•Perform month-end P&L and valuation tie-out to Fund Administrators
•Communicate with trading counterparts and resolve material derivative valuation differences
•Sign off on valuation before NAV is issued to investors
•Contribute to other supporting roles including new products launches, account opening, etc.

Basic Qualifications

•Fluency in English (written and spoken)
•Minimum 3 years of experience in Product Control
•Fluency in Outlook, Microsoft Excel, Word, Powerpoint, and other applications
•Team player
•Self confidence to interact with demanding internal clients, able to work under pressure
•Willing to broaden knowledge / take larger responsibilities
•Flexibility to deal with changes
•Able to communicate concisely and effectively and escalate issues when appropriate
•Able to learn and effectively apply knowledge
•Self motivator with initiative to improve and drive to deliver

Preferred Qualifications

•CA, CPA, and/or CFA qualifications not required but preferred
