STREET CHILD

Want to do something amazing in your holidays and also improve your CV?

Street Child is a charity working in West Africa that is dedicated to empowering some of the most vulnerable children in the world by giving them the chance to go to school and giving their families the means to keep them there. Since its launch in 2008, Street Child has reunited 2,000 street children with their families and created educational opportunities for more than 20,000 children.

We are looking for primary or secondary teachers (from PGCE students to senior management) who are looking for a new and exciting challenge in 2014. You will travel to Sierra Leone in the Easter or Summer holidays for 1 -2 weeks and help us run some simple workshops and work alongside our Sierra Leonean teachers. On your return you will have the option of building a sustainable relationship with other UK teachers/schools and those you have worked with out there.

Whilst out there you will have time to explore Sierra Leone and our projects, get involved in hands on education work with street children, travel to some of the remotest parts of Sierra Leone and to meet other UK teachers keen to develop and share resources. It will be a chance to really make a huge difference to the lives of thousands of children and travel to an incredible country. Of course it won’t all be work, there will be plenty of opportunities to relax and unwind and enjoy the beautiful country.

Packages are £1000 including return flights from London, visas, accommodation, food during the day, travel around Sierra Leone and a trip to a remote village in the North (not to be missed). It also includes a pre-departure meet and greet event in London. There are limited places so hurry!

STREET CHILD

Street Child is a charity working in West Africa that is dedicated to empowering some of the most vulnerable children in the world by giving them the chance to go to school and giving their families the means to keep them there. Since its launch in 2008, Street Child has reunited 2,500 street children with their families and created educational opportunities for more than 20,000 children.

At Street Child we are very proud of our volunteer-based approach, which plays a vital role in the continued expansion of this dynamic charity. We need dedicated individuals who are looking for a way to give back and are willing to donate their time and skills to support our education programme in Sierra Leone for any amount of time, from one week to 3 months.

We are seeking people to help us with two essential components of the charity’s work:

1. The Education Programme in-country, for which volunteers will travel to Sierra Leone to provide support in various ways: everyday teaching support in the classroom; help with revision classes to prepare students for GCSE equivalent examinations; sports and recreation – giving children the chance to be kids and just play, something many of them had previously been deprived of.

2. Our fundraising efforts, where volunteers have the opportunity to work with our UK fundraising team to achieve vital funds to directly support the projects they will visit and work with in West Africa.

All volunteers are expected to self-fund their flights but our costs offer incredible value: the daily charge of £5-7 (depending on length of placement) covers accommodation, one daily meal, airport transfers and all project-related transport.

The ideal applicant will be open-minded, hard working, adaptable, respectful, culturally sensitive, resilient, compassionate and adventurous. If this sounds like you then we want to hear from you; send a CV and cover letter explaining why you would like to apply to ambassadors@street-child.co.uk.

STREET CHILD

Street Child is a charity working in West Africa that is dedicated to empowering some of the most vulnerable children in the world by giving them the chance to go to school and giving their families the means to keep them there. Street Child started 5 years ago in one location with 4 social workers and 100 street children. Now, we are working in over 30 regions in Sierra Leone and have recently spread our mission to Liberia. Since its launch in 2008, Street Child has reunited 2,500 street children with their families and created educational opportunities for more than 20,000 children.

At Street Child we are very proud of our volunteer-based approach, which plays a vital role in the continued expansion of this dynamic charity. We are in search of volunteers who are willing to donate their time and skills for any amount of time from a week to three months.

We need volunteers to help organise an essential aspect of our work:

Sports and recreation is becoming an increasingly important part of what we do. The majority of the children we work with have been deprived of their UN Convention right to relax and play. In addition, sports and recreation are a powerful educational tool and are proven to be an effective incentive to encourage children to come to school. Street Child is now seeking dedicated volunteers to help organise and implement this aspect of our projects alongside our teachers and social workers for some of the most vulnerable children in the world.

All volunteers are expected to self-fund their flights but our costs offer incredible value: the daily charge of £5-7 (depending on the length of each placement) covers accommodation, one daily meal, airport transfers and all project-related transport.
