STREET CHILD

Street Child is a charity working in West Africa that is dedicated to empowering some of the most vulnerable children in the world by giving them the chance to go to school and giving their families the means to keep them there. Since its launch in 2008, Street Child has reunited 2,500 street children with their families and created educational opportunities for more than 20,000 children.

At Street Child we are very proud of our volunteer-based approach, which plays a vital role in the continued expansion of this dynamic charity. We need dedicated individuals who are looking for a way to give back and are willing to donate their time and skills to support our education programme in Sierra Leone for any amount of time, from one week to 3 months.

We are seeking people to help us with two essential components of the charity’s work:

1. The Education Programme in-country, for which volunteers will travel to Sierra Leone to provide support in various ways: everyday teaching support in the classroom; help with revision classes to prepare students for GCSE equivalent examinations; sports and recreation – giving children the chance to be kids and just play, something many of them had previously been deprived of.

2. Our fundraising efforts, where volunteers have the opportunity to work with our UK fundraising team to achieve vital funds to directly support the projects they will visit and work with in West Africa.

All volunteers are expected to self-fund their flights but our costs offer incredible value: the daily charge of £5-7 (depending on length of placement) covers accommodation, one daily meal, airport transfers and all project-related transport.

The ideal applicant will be open-minded, hard working, adaptable, respectful, culturally sensitive, resilient, compassionate and adventurous. If this sounds like you then we want to hear from you; send a CV and cover letter explaining why you would like to apply to ambassadors@street-child.co.uk.
