STREET CHILD

Street Child is a charity working in West Africa that is dedicated to empowering some of the most vulnerable children in the world by giving them the chance to go to school and giving their families the means to keep them there. Street Child started 5 years ago in one location with 4 social workers and 100 street children. Now, we are working in over 30 regions in Sierra Leone and have recently spread our mission to Liberia. Since its launch in 2008, Street Child has reunited 2,500 street children with their families and created educational opportunities for more than 20,000 children.

At Street Child we are very proud of our volunteer-based approach, which plays a vital role in the continued expansion of this dynamic charity. We are in search of volunteers who are willing to donate their time and skills for any amount of time from a week to three months.

We need volunteers to help organise an essential aspect of our work:

Sports and recreation is becoming an increasingly important part of what we do. The majority of the children we work with have been deprived of their UN Convention right to relax and play. In addition, sports and recreation are a powerful educational tool and are proven to be an effective incentive to encourage children to come to school. Street Child is now seeking dedicated volunteers to help organise and implement this aspect of our projects alongside our teachers and social workers for some of the most vulnerable children in the world.

All volunteers are expected to self-fund their flights but our costs offer incredible value: the daily charge of £5-7 (depending on the length of each placement) covers accommodation, one daily meal, airport transfers and all project-related transport.
