Basic purpose
|
IRRI is looking for
an internationally recruited staff (IRS) to lead its research program on
women and youth in the rice value chain. This is an exciting and challenging
opportunity for a mid-career level professional to carry out forward-looking
research on the potential roles of rural women and youth as major
contributors and beneficiaries in the rice value chain amidst the ongoing
structural transformation in Asian agriculture. The successful candidate will
work in a multidisciplinary team setting and collaborate closely with IRRI
specialists in breeding, crop management,, and value chain and impact
assessment.

Roles and responsibilities
|
• Conduct research
on the changing role of women in rice farming and their potential involvement
in downstream value addition.
• Provide strong leadership to the design and implementation of the GRiSP strategy that focuses on the participation of rural women and youth in the rice value chain. • Integrate gender into all stages of project activities and incorporate gender-differentiated indicators into the monitoring and evaluation plan. • Develop partnerships for purposes of joint advocacy and knowledge generation and sharing. • Enhance social science research capacity of the NARES and other partners to use both qualitative and advanced quantitative methods for data analysis through training and research collaborations. • Publish research results in high-quality disciplinary and interdisciplinary journals. • Represent IRRI at international workshops and meetings. • Mentor young staff and graduate students. Qualification requirements: PhD in agricultural economics, economics, rural sociology, gender studies, development economics or related field; 5–10 years of relevant experience in women and gender studies; record of quality publications; sound interpersonal and communication skills; demonstrated ability to work in a multicultural team-oriented environment, and excellent written and spoken English. |
