What You’ll Do
 
John Deere Des Moines Works is seeking a Design Engineer (Self Propelled Sprayers) to perform basic product design and/or analysis work for a defined portion of a project. You will operate in a team environment, providing input to design solutions and participating in design reviews. In addition, you will:
  • Develop recommendations within established guidelines; work and decisions are reviewed by supervisors before implementation.
  • Apply existing applications to routine problems.
  • Produce and/or evaluate possible design solutions to improve cost, quality and performance based on specialized knowledge of engineering applications. This may include possible involvement of other functional engineers, supply management and/or supplier personnel.
  • Analyze assignments and determine engineering specifications which must be fulfilled for routine problems or projects.
  • Compile and furnish necessary information (engineering decisions and reports of pertinent design analyses data) to document the design solution required for building of prototypes and adoption of the design with possible involvement of other functional engineers, supply management and/or supplier personnel.
  • Learn and apply company engineering policies and practices; learn company products.

What It Takes

 
 
We need an excellent communicator, who thrives on solving problems and working in a team environment.  Ideally, you will have a Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience. In addition, we require:
  • Skill in using computer aided design and/or engineering tools (Creo Parametric).
  • Knowledge of the Enterprise Product Development Process (EPDP).
  • Understanding of engineering principles, theory and practice as they relate to agricultural or off-highway equipment.
  • Fundamental understanding of machine forms relevant to the specific job assignment and Company division/unit.
  • Knowledge/familiarity with machines manufactured by competitors. 
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% (both domestic and internationally). 
A strong candidate will also have:
  • Skill in using company information systems and processes (NCCA,EETS,V2NET,C-projects,SAP).
  • Experience designing structural components, and background in engineering mechanics, static & dynamics.
  • Experience with use of joining processes - welding, bolting, and bonding.
  • Exposure to use of hydraulic components (cylinders, electrohydraulic valves, orifices) in designs.
  • Knowledge of common analysis methodologies (kinematics, dynamics, finite element).
